SEE BELOW Grounds-keeping team member (paid, part-time, seasonal)
Visit four township locations (2 parks, 2 cemeteries) a minimum of twice per week. Check for litter and maintenance issues, and empty trash cans as needed. Interact with visitors. Many opportunities for additional work, as needs arise. Very flexible schedule, plus you’ll be part of a small team to share the overall workload, which might allow for weeks off. All work is outdoors.
$15 per hour after a 45-day welcome period. Ample and immediate opportunity for increased responsibility and pay. Paid mileage between locations. Transportation required. Lifting and manual labor involved. Typically the most work is available March through November.
CLOSED Administrator (paid, part-time, remote)
Manage inquiries including from residents, park users, vendors, and those seeking assistance. Over time, learn township procedures and gradually take over related functions which may include field and pavilion rentals, paying bills, organizing records, providing assistance to residents in need, and maintaining cemeteries.
This new position requires professionalism and a heart for serving the public, empathy, excellent communication skills, the ability to solve problems, aptitude with basic technologies, an attention to detail, and an intent to learn over time. Much work will be performed remotely, on a highly flexible schedule that still meets expectations for responsiveness to inquiries, and periodically meeting immediate needs.
$18 per hour to start, with ample and immediate opportunity for increased responsibility and pay.
Initial hours per week will be determined by the volume of inquiries received. Under 10 hours per week are expected.
Additional duties and special projects can justify additional hours over time.
PARTIALLY FILLED, SEE BELOW Historian (paid, part-time, remote)
Review existing township artifacts and records, and organize them for 1) preservation and 2) public display. Research the history of the township — perhaps by finding pertinent books and articles, talking with residents, and seeking the support of sympathetic organizations (genealogists, historical societies, libraries). Learning about cemeteries may be involved.
The ideal candidate has a passion for understanding and preserving history, and some affinity to Harris Township. Working with the trustee, this person will envision an ideal outcome, propose and manage a work schedule, and possess research and writing skills. All or most of this work can be done remotely, and on an extremely flexible schedule.
$15 per hour (to start). Exceptionally qualified individuals may qualify for merit pay increases.
The number of available hours will be determined by active, approved projects. Areas of interest to the township include early township operations including related to education, the background of each cemetery including who is buried in them, the history of fire protection, notable locations and buildings, the development of subdivisions over time, and preservation of documents and images.
This position is currently partially staffed. Those with an interest are encouraged to reach out with a statement of skills and experience, and how they might be used to bring history to life to benefit residents of the township.
