Code enforcement
Harris Township has no role in code enforcement.
If the property is within a subdivision with a Homeowners’ Association (HOA), start there.
If the property is within City of Mishawaka limits, contact The Mishawaka Code Enforcement Department at (574) 258-1612.
Otherwise, St. Joseph County may be able to help.
Please note: as of 2021, the County did not have an ordinance in place to address tall grass or unkempt vegetation. That has changed. please see below.
What issue concerns you?
Tall grass, abandoned buildings or those in disrepair, junk in lawns, generally 'bad' neighbors
You can report abandoned and rundown properties using the county’s Citizen Request Tracker
For unsafe buildings, start by emailing the county’s Building Department: or call 574-235-9554
Some issues can be addressed as zoning violations. Please email Planning & Zoning: or call 574-235-7800
Per Abby Wiles of the county: ‘Unfortunately the County does not currently have an ordinance in place to address tall grass or unkempt vegetation. In 2021, a Code Enforcement Program, which would address common code enforcement violations, was proposed as part of the 2022 budget. For more information, please contact Abby Wiles at 574-235-9810.’
Update 01/06/2022: Junk and weeds in neighbor's yard? St. Joseph County will soon be able to help.
