Harris Township fire protection and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are provided by the Clay Fire Territory (CFT) through an agreement that has been in place for several years. Portions of Harris Township within the City of Mishawaka are served by the city.
Harris Township is represented by two members on the five person CFT oversight board, called the Fire Commission.
The lack of city water and hydrants in much of the Granger area provides some unique fire protection challenges.
CFT made a significant investment in engines that bring water to the fire.
A water strategy exists to continually improve the ability to make water available when and where needed.
The CFT is an accredited agency, one of only a few in the state. Accreditation requires passing strict standards, designed to optimize the quality of fire protection.
