PLANTS AND HEADSTONES DON’T MIX WELL

It is usually with the best of intentions that people plant flowers or shrubs near the headstones of a deceased loved one.  The problem is, they grow.  What one day looks like a cute, small plant becomes a monster that overtakes the headstone.  It may displace it.  Experts say the roots become an issue, and above-ground growth promotes the retention of moisture leading to headstone damage.

All plantings – existing and new – are subject to removal by the Township.  Effective at the start of the 2015 cemetery restoration project, all plantings and decorations are subject to removal on a temporary basis, and on a permanent basis if deemed appropriate.

Don’t plant small bushes, trees, or other living things

They grow, and the results are not good for anyone
