Harris Township is in the northeast corner of St. Joseph County, Indiana. It is bordered by the state line, Elkhart County line, Gumwood/Main Street to the west, and Douglas Road to the south – all within Granger.

Structure & Process

The three person Township Board is elected, and is primarily responsible for approving township budgets.

The Township Trustee is elected, and is primarily responsible for delivering services and maintaining township assets.

The township holds two positions on the Clay Fire Territory board.

Meetings

Township Meetings are open to the public. 
The board organization meeting is typically held in early January.
The Annual Financial Report of the previous year’s activity is typically reviewed at a February meeting. 
Budget meetings are held in the fall, in preparation for the next year’s spending and tax levies. 
Other meetings are held as needed.  Meetings are announced as they are scheduled.

The township was established in the 1800s by Jacob Harris, an early settler.
