Plants and headstones don’t mix well

Updated rules are coming

It is usually with the best of intentions that people plant flowers or shrubs near the headstones of a deceased loved one.  The problem is, they grow.  What one day looks like a cute, small plant becomes a monster that overtakes the headstone.  It may displace it.  Experts say the roots become an issue, and above-ground growth promotes the retention of moisture leading to headstone damage.

Effective immediately, all plantings – existing and new – are subject to removal by the Township.  Please contact the Trustee in order to make arrangements.  When a restoration project commences later this year, all plantings and decorations are subject to removal on a temporary basis, and on a permanent basis if deemed appropriate.
