Upcoming Job Opportunity at Harris Township

During the late summer of 2016, applications will be accepted for the position of Maintenance Manager, with a projected initial start date of October 1st, 2016.  Interested parties should begin to prepare a statement of qualifications.

The position will be seasonal (approximately March through November), and part time (approximately 20 hours per week) on a relatively flexible schedule, paid at a competitive hourly rate based on experience and skills.  No benefits.  The position requires a vehicle.

Sample expected responsibilities include oversight of township parks and cemeteries, lawn and tree maintenance, trash removal, cleaning, playground inspecting, court maintenance, minor repairs, and working with service providers.  Also: being on-call via phone or text, ownership of problems, plus planning for and implementing improvements across a variety of areas including parking, lighting, signage, bird habitats, rentals, and security.

Moving earth at EPP (Elm Ped Park)

Two weeks into a three month construction calendar, lots of earth is being moved at Harris Township’s Elm Road Ped(estrian) Park, or EPP.

The hard working employees of Mishawaka’s Northern Indiana Construction have been busy laying the groundwork for upcoming improvements that will include a cement walk, playground, sports courts and a ball diamond.  Parking and proper drainage are also part of the effort.

If all goes well, construction will be complete in October.  Until then, the park is closed.

Work is starting on a new park in Granger.

Harris Township is building the park on land along Elm Road, between the Clay Fire Station and the library.  When the work is finished it will include a playground, basketball and pickleball courts, as well as a baseball diamond.  Granger Sunrise Rotary is developing the playground.  The park is expected to open in October.

Elm Ped Park construction is underway

Work will continue until approximately October 1.  When the 2016 work is complete, the park will include a walkway connected to the Granger Path, a playground area to be developed by Granger Sunrise Rotary, basketball and pickleball courts, a ball diamond, seating, and an improved parking area.

The low bidders, both of Mishawaka, were awarded the work – Northern Indiana Construction, and L.L Geans Construction Co..

The park will be closed until construction is complete.

Seeking bids for Elm Road Pedestrian Park work!

Bids are being solicited for park development including earth work, cement work, and sports courts.  For information, contact the township or purchase documents from Triangle Digital Printing of Mishawaka, Indiana.  Bids are due Tuesday June 21st by 7pm, at which time they will be opened by the Harris Township Board.

The park will include a walkway connecting to the Granger Path, a playground area, Pickleball courts and a basketball court, and parking.

What is the status of the Elm Road park?

Upgrades to the land near State Road 23 and Elm Road are coming, but there are a few more hurdles to clear.  Construction is still expected in 2016.

A survey of the land has been completed, and a final design is underway.  The park will include connection to the Granger Path, a playground, basketball court, pickleball courts, and at least one pavilion.

Getting all the proper approvals is taking longer than initially expected.  Once we’ve cleared that hurdle, the project will go to bid.

Granger Sunrise Rotary Joins Park Effort

Granger Sunrise Rotary is joining Harris Township’s effort to create a pedestrian park in Granger.  The Granger Sunrise Rotary is part of the worldwide organization, Rotary International.  Rotary is a volunteer organization of 1.2 million business and professional leaders united worldwide to provide humanitarian service and help build goodwill and peace.

Granger Sunrise Rotary is making a multi-year commitment to build and grow a playground on the land between the fire station and library branch on the east side of Elm Road just north of State Road23.  Rotary will hold fund-raisers in order to add on to the project.  Items that will be added to the park include swings, slide, picnic tables and a pavilion.

Playground construction is expected to begin spring 2016.

The Granger Sunrise Rotary is currently recruiting volunteers to help with installing playground equipment and related duties.  They are also accepting cash donations to help fund the project
